Technically March 20, 2023 is the first day of spring, but beyond the calendar Spring in New England has a smell, a feel, and a vibe. By the end of March we’ve been on a rollercoaster with record highs, chilling lows, freak snowstorms, gusting winds, and torrential downpours. April brings rain, and May and June bring outdoor drinking.
The Bascule Mystic Drawbridge starts operating regularly May 1- Oct. 31 at 40 minutes past the hour and the 230 tons of concrete raises the bridge to photographing tourists, and rushed drivers in traffic. Time to roll the windows down and just take life slowly, Mystic is buzzing and summer is starting!
Mystic etiquette is in full force ahead. Mystic is walkable, scenic, and offers incredible views with fantastic food. We remind the pedestrians to use the crosswalks and the drivers to let the parallel parkers back into their space.
Shopping is fun, locals are incredibly chatty and happy to learn about the travels of others. Restaurants need reservations again, and bartenders need to be tipped for their multitasking abilities. Mystic is one of the friendliest towns. The most fun part about the bar, by the end of the night the tourists and the locals are one and the waitstaff is apart of the party.
Local attractions are tenderly cared for, and litter is undetected.
Take the Drawbridge Ice-cream or Candy Shoppe sweets down the dock or to the park and let the smiles be exchanged. The playground is full of laughter as the days get longer and bedtime gets later.
