Restaurant Week Day 3: The Irons

For Day 3 we went across from Olde Mistick Village over to The Irons in the Hilton Mystic for lunch. This is a fun little spot within the hotel and you don’t have to be a guest of the hotel to dine there.

$15 Lunch Menu
Course 1:
House Salad
Bacon Bourbon Chowder
Course 2:
Grown Up Grilled Cheese- short rib, maple smoked cheddar, house made pickles, sour dough
Soupy Burger- soupy style ground pork, banana peppers, smoked provolone, roasted garlic aioli, brioche bun
Beer Batter Fried Cod Sandwich- lettuce, tomato, brioche bun, irons tarter sauce

For course 1 I was originally going to try the bacon bourbon chowder but the bartender told me that she gets a salad almost everyday. She also said that the caesar dressing is house made and it is her favorite thing. So I was instantly sold. This was a fun take on the a caesar salad. Instead of several croutons they had one big crouton flatbread thing that was seasoned and had baked parmesan cheese on top. It was ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS! Like holy cow. I could’ve eaten 10 of those suckers. I even got some extra caesar dressing to dip it into. I really enjoy caesar salads because there isn’t much to them but they can be very tasty and this caesar proved that. I agree with the bartender 100% and I am so glad I got this dish.
For course 2 I went with the grown up grilled cheese. When I first saw it on the menu I was drooling. It sounded so good and it was very good! It was so flavorful. It came with a dipping sauce and that just elevated the sandwich. It made the sandwich even juicier and delightful. They took a basic kids dish and brought it to a higher level and truly made it into a grown up dish. You also got the choice of either wedge fries or coleslaw. I went with fries. These fries had a great crunch and were perfectly cooked and seasoned. This was very enjoyable lunch and I was very pleased with my choices.

I really loved dinning here. The bar area is beautiful and modern. There is also a fireplace with some comfy chairs that were calling my name. I could’ve spent the afternoon there working but they don’t have free wifi for non hotel guests. However, that won’t stop me from dining there in the future. I don’t know how it is during dinner or lunch during the rest of the week but it wasn’t super busy so it was a quiet little lunch.
