STONINGTON, Conn. —

On a night when the weather made execution a challenge, the Stonington Bears displayed the grit and determination that have become trademarks of their season. Although the conditions contributed to a setback in the win column, the effort reaffirmed the team’s identity — resilient, disciplined, and committed to competing every snap.

Steady rain and slick footing shaped the game from the outset. Even so, Stonington leaned on its physical style of play, led by fullback and linebacker Gabe Torruella, whose presence was felt on both sides of the ball. Torruella powered through the elements with a series of hard-nosed runs while delivering key defensive stops that kept the Bears within striking distance. His performance provided stability at moments when footing, visibility, and ball control proved difficult.

One of the game’s brightest moments came from Ben Thomas, who turned a difficult wet-weather snap into Stonington’s lone touchdown. His quick reaction and composure in challenging conditions reflected the team’s overarching mindset — stay calm, stay focused, and keep fighting.
Defensively, the Bears remained sharp despite the rain-induced challenges. The defensive front applied steady pressure, while the secondary worked to contain plays in open space and limit explosive opportunities. Even in defeat, Stonington’s defensive consistency and physicality offered promising signs as the team enters the late-season stretch.

Now 4–3 on the year, the Bears shift their attention to a pivotal home matchup against Griswold this Friday. On paper, it stands as one of their toughest tests, but Stonington hopes the combination of home-field advantage and renewed hunger will set the tone for a strong finish in ECC Division III play.
