STONINGTON, Conn. — On a crisp evening under the Friday night lights, the Stonington Bears football program took time to celebrate a sizable and accomplished senior class — many of whom have been steady contributors throughout their four-year careers. The school band added to the atmosphere, filling the stands with spirited performances, including a standout solo from one of its senior members.

On offense, Stonington opened the game with a measured approach, relying almost exclusively on its ground attack. Senior running back Logan Christina shouldered the workload, offering consistent gains and demonstrating the leadership and toughness that have defined his tenure with the Bears. His performance captured the essence of senior night — dependable, determined, and team-focused.

Defensively, the Bears showed discipline and grit, keeping the contest close through much of the first half. Their efforts, however, were tested when a special-teams miscue swung momentum toward the Griswold Wolverines. Griswold’s Aaden Cutter capitalized on the shift, breaking free for several long runs that energized his team and changed the game’s rhythm.

Although the loss significantly dims Stonington’s postseason hopes, the narrative of the season is still being written. Two critical matchups remain: a road test against the Ledyard Colonels and the storied Thanksgiving rivalry game against Westerly, a tradition spanning more than 110 years. Victories in both would allow the senior class to close their chapter with momentum, surpass early-season expectations, and set a solid foundation for the program moving forward.

Despite the setback, the Bears demonstrated resilience and competitive fire — qualities they’ll need to carry into the final stretch. Senior night may have ended on a somber note, but the character shown on the field suggests that this team’s story can still finish on a high.
